HOWELL – New Jersey American Water is preparing to replace approximately 7,500 feet of aging water main in Howell.

The company will upgrade aging 6-inch water lines, which were installed as far back as the 1960s, with new 8-inch ductile iron main along the entire length of Stockport Way, Westbrook Road, Westbrook Circle, Beacon Drive, Meadowbrook Drive and Putnam Road, according to a press release.

The project also includes installing three new fire hydrants and replacing 114 utility owned
service lines along the pipeline route, according to the press release.

This $2.2 million investment will continue to advance water service reliability and
increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in Howell, according to New Jersey American Water.

This improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multi-million dollar initiative to
accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life
in more than 100 communities across the state, according to the press release.

New Jersey American Water’s local contractor, Perna Finnigan Inc., will begin work on or about Oct. 12 and expects to finish by January, weather permitting. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Some work on Saturday may be required to maintain the project schedule. Final street restorations will take place approximately 90 days after project completion, according to the press release. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction.
