Specialized Surgical Center of Central New Jersey opens in East Brunswick

Children should have eye exams before heading back to school

The Specialized Surgical Center of Central New Jersey has opened a location in East Brunswick to perform a wide range of ophthalmic outpatient surgical procedures.

With this launch, the Specialized Surgical Center of Central New Jersey, formerly known as the Somerset Eye Institute, PC, joins Virtua Health.

“I was fortunate to have my first opportunity to operate at our new facility, the first time two surgeons were operating at the same time, something which could never happen in our former facility, as good as it was,” Medical Director Dr. Joseph Calderone said in a prepared statement. “I was impressed at the potential this new facility has to offer. Our patients have also had very favorable opinions, especially those having surgery on their second eyes at the new facility.”

The center, which has relocated to a 10,000-square-foot facility with three operating rooms at 41 Arthur St., East Brunswick, currently is dedicated to ophthalmic surgical procedures with the capacity to expand to additional specialties. The latest state-of-the-art technologies include a Femtosecond laser, housed in a separate procedure room, which allows for more efficient patient care and optimal use of the newest technology.

The center previously was located at 562 Easton Ave. in Somerset.

The benefits of performing surgical cases in an ambulatory setting include patient and physician convenience and safety, utilizing the most advanced technologies available, in a cost-effective setting, according to the statement.

The center is licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health, accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), and is Medicare certified.

All doctors performing cases at the center are in the physician directory found at www.ssc-cnj.com.
