SPOTSWOOD–Bringing spooky season cheer to its patrons despite the ongoing pandemic, the Spotswood Office on Aging and Senior Center held a Halloween Drive-Thru event for its members.
“Each year, we host a big Halloween costume party but due to coronavirus we are unable to hold any large events. So, in order to celebrate, we decided on a Halloween drive-thru event which allows us to still see each other in a safe manner. We asked our seniors to call and register so we could assign time slots to keep the traffic from backing up,” Spotswood Office on Aging (OOA) Director Donna Faulkenberry said.
Complete with music, Halloween costumes and care packages, OOA employees passed out customized goodie bags to patrons drove or walked to the Senior Center on Oct. 30, located at 1 Arlington Ave.
Faulkenberry said the office also blocked out some time for the residents in the apartment complex where the Senior Center is located to wear their masks and walk over.
“In addition to Halloween candy, we also [treated] our members to a freshly baked cider donut and a packet of apple cider mix so they can make their own hot cider,” Faulkenberry said. “Robert Wood Johnson Hospital and CareOne East Brunswick … also provided care packages to hand out to our seniors. We are very grateful to both organizations for their generosity.”
