Tri-Town News board of education election results

There were elections for seats on the school boards in Farmingdale Howell and Jackson on Nov. 3.

The results listed here reflect what has been posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office (Farmingdale, Howell) and the Ocean County Clerk’s Office (Jackson) at this time. The results are not official and it is not known when the results will be final.

Additional mail-in ballots and provisional ballots may remain to be counted. The results of the election will remain unofficial until they are certified.

• Farmingdale – There was one seat available on the Farmingdale Board of Education. No resident filed to run for the board.

As of Nov. 4, the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office was reporting 27 write-in votes have been cast in the race, but the clerk’s office has not reported who received the write-in votes or if the individual who received the most write-in votes has been offered the position.

• Howell – Four residents are running for three three-year terms on the Howell K-8 School District Board of Education. The candidates are Stephen Dobbins, Denise Lowe, Al Miller and Ira Thor.

As of Nov. 4, the top three vote-getters are Lowe, with 8,994 votes, Miller, with 7,780 votes, and Thor, with 7,449 votes. Dobbins is currently in fourth place with 7,325 votes.

Lowe, Miller and Thor are current board members.

• Jackson – Three candidates are seeking two three-year terms on the Jackson School District Board of Education. The candidates are Scott Sargent, Tara Rivera and Anthony Mero.

As of Nov. 4, the top two vote-getters are Sargent, with 12,217 votes, and Rivera, with 11,138 votes. Mero is currently in third place with 9,617 votes.

Sargent and Rivera are current board members.

There was also a one-year term on the school board on the Jackson ballot. The only candidate who filed a nominating petition to gain a place on the Nov. 3 ballot was Tzvi Herman.

As of Nov. 4, Herman has received 8,678 votes in his first bid for a seat on the school board.

In the weeks leading up to Election Day, several residents who did not file a nominating petition to gain a place on the Nov. 3 ballot announced they were seeking the one-year term as write-in candidates.

On Nov. 4, the Ocean County Clerk’s Office reported that 7,858 write-in votes had been cast in the race for the one-year term, but the clerk’s office has not reported who received write-in votes and said it could be a week until the write-in results are announced.
