MATAWAN – The Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District Board of Education has entered into an agreement with MOCEANS Center for Independent Living to provide the RISE program to district pupils.
Based on a recommendation from Superintendent of Schools Joseph Majka, board members authorized the agreement with MOCEANS Center for Independent Living, Long Branch, which will provide the RISE program during the 2020-21 academic year and the summer of 2021.
Assistant Superintendent of Special Services and and Programs Nelyda Perez said this will be the first year the school district will be working with MOCEANS Center for Independent Living.
The RISE program helps students who live with disabilities acquire skills and experience to guide their transition to post-secondary employment and education, according to the board.
Perez said district administrators are projecting 15 students will participate in the RISE program and said administrators hope to start the program by December.
Students who participate in the RISE program will explore the world of work through classroom-based, community-based and interactive activities. District administrators said there is no cost to the district for the program.
