NORTH BRUNSWICK – The North Brunswick community united to honor veterans on Nov. 11 at North Brunswick American Legion Post 459. The in-person, invitation only ceremony was hosted by Post 459 along with members of VFW Post 2319 and Wreaths Across America.

The program’s theme, “Honoring all who served,” was honored by the presence of the Middlesex County Police and Fire Pipes and Drums who opened the program, followed by welcoming remarks by Richard Pender, a Korean War veteran and past commander of the American Legion, a flag salute, and singing of the National Anthem by members of the American Legion.

Melanie Paccillo, a U.S. Air Force veteran and graduate of North Brunswick Township High School, read the American Legion’s Veterans Day Prayer, followed by the singing of “God Bless America” by the crowd of over 30 people in attendance.

The program continued with special remarks by invited guests Ronald G. Rios, director of the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders; Mayor Francis “Mac” Womack; Dr. Brian Zychoski, superintendent of schools; and Eleanor Molloy from the Wreaths Across America Elmwood Cemetery chapter.

Paul Carroll, a veteran and member of VFW Post 2319, closed the ceremony with remarks about the importance of Veterans Day.

Afterward, “Taps” was played.
