Every year, the South Brunswick Senior Center holds a large celebration for local heroes for Veterans Day, but this year was quite different.

Partnering with the South Brunswick Police Department and the South Brunswick Transportation Department, staff visited nine veterans on Nov. 11 and brought a small parade including sirens, balloons, gifts and the blasting of “Reveille” as they approached their homes. Veterans included Jimmy Chin, Robert Garr, Rod Holliday, Richard Jackson, Carmelo Marrero, Buddy Thomas, Phil Weinstein and Gary Harriman.

Arranging this visit was social worker Dawn Neglia, assisted by Darlene Dawson, Jasmine Aynilian, JillAnn Foxxe, Miritza Reyes and Caryl Greenberg.

Though the senior center’s doors are closed, the staff is available daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, providing virtual and telephone programs, services and resources.
