SAYREVILLE – Newcomers Eloy Fernandez, Alison Napolitano and Eileen Pabon were elected to three-year terms on the Sayreville School District Board of Education.
According to results certified by the Middlesex County Clerk’s Office on Nov. 20, Napolitano received 9,390 votes, Fernandez received 8,552 votes and Pabon received 8,049 votes.
Incumbent Christopher Callahan received 4,694 votes, Jessica Esposito received 3,991 votes, incumbent Danielle Pieloch received 3,274 votes, Zoe Katsilis received 2,672 votes and Syed Muhammed Ali received 1,828 votes, according to the clerk’s office.
There were 327 write-in votes.
Fernandez, Napolitano and Pabon campaigned together for the three available seats. They said areas of focus for all three of them on the board will be a reduction in bullying, virtual learning preparedness, bus transportation and accountability, personalized career and college guidance for all students in middle school and high school, fiscal stewardship of tax dollars allocated to the board, and a redesign of the district’s Talented and Gifted Education program to be more inclusive.
Fernandez has been on the Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council (SPAC) for the past two years and served as vice president during the 2019-20 school year.
“On behalf of our team, I would like to thank everyone for their support,” Fernandez said. “I am truly humbled by all the support and I hope to be a voice for our children as we navigate through these difficult times.
“I also would like to thank all the candidates,” he continued. “I was honored to run against so many good people.”
Napolitano, a resident of Sayreville for 20 years, is a stay-at-home mother who has worked part-time as a substitute teacher for the Sayreville School District.
She is the president of the SPAC, previously holding the position of vice president, and is also on the Samsel Upper Elementary School PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) board as the liaison for fifth grade students. For eight years, she served on the Truman School PTO and was president for five years.
Papon, a resident of Sayreville for eight years, is the benefits manager at an IT staffing firm and has been a licensed insurance broker for more than 20 years. She served as the first SPAC president and was responsible for helping create the council. Additionally, Papon serves as co-chair of total rewards for the New York City SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management).
“Thank you to everyone who voted for our team for a three-year term on the Sayreville Board of Education,” Pabon said. “We are beyond excited and appreciate your support and trust you have shown us. We will do our best to represent the best interests of all the children and families in Sayreville.”
