Schools in the area expect to open for in-person learning next week, following the winter holidays and the holiday break.

South Brunswick schools will reopen to students with special needs on Jan. 13, and on Jan. 19 for the general student population, Superintendent of Schools Scott Feder said on Jan. 7.

However, Feder called the situation “fluid” and said changes could be announced as necessary.

He said students who attend school will be expected to wear a mask, keep their distance from others, be vigilant and not come to school with symptoms of COVID-19.

North Brunswick Superintendent of Schools Brian Zychowski said much the same, stating that North Brunswick schools will open for hybrid in-person learning as of Jan. 19.

“We will endeavor to return to the in-person model along with the virtual model as chosen by some families,” he said.

Seventy-five percent of North Brunswick families wish to continue remote learning, he said, but for the 25% of students returning to school, they will follow a Blue/Gold model from Monday to Friday that will be sent out by each school’s principal.

“Be vigilant. Stay safe. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel, yet we are still in the tunnel. Remain safe. Stay focused,” Zychowski said.
