Middlesex County celebrates Black History Month with a spectrum of arts and cultural events

The Arts Institute of Middlesex County is presenting, promoting and supporting a multitude of arts and culture events, exhibitions and shows throughout February, primarily centered around Black History Month.

February’s event highlights include:

  • Zimmerli Art Museum and Windows of Understanding, a screening and panel discussion around “The Moral Responsibility of the Artist” by James Baldwin, at 7 p.m. Feb. 2.
  • Black History Month Art & Story Time by the Civic League of Greater New Brunswick. Explore artwork and life of the Romare Bearden, a 20th century American artist of African, Cherokee and Italian descent, at 4 p.m. Feb. 3.
  • Edison Public Library and the NAACP Metuchen Piscataway Area Branch will present Harriet Tubman and Ona Judge: Two Women Who Resisted, at 7 p.m. Feb. 10
  • Beatmakers & Barrier Breakers: Creating Communities through Music hosted by local DJs, producers, and emcees as they discuss the importance of creating music, at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 11
  • Windows of Understanding – Wellness & Healing Sessions: a series of interactive sessions around different mediation and yoga practices at 6 p.m. Feb. 4, 11, 18 and 25
  • George Street Playhouse “Bad Dates” – a one-woman rom-com featuring 600 pairs of shoes and a string of unsatisfactory dates, Feb. 14 to March 7
  • Crossroads Theatre Company “Home with Crossroads: The Colored Museum” written by an emerging playwright named George C. Wolfe. Crossroads presents the PBS broadcast of “The Colored Museum.” Feb. 2-28
