EAST BRUNSWICK – Fifth Grade Passion Projects provide an opportunity for all fifth grade students in East Brunswick to develop, manage and share ideas.

School communities take turns participating throughout the year. Students can research and write, make something out of household materials, put on a show, record a video, etc., according to information provided by the East Brunswick Public Schools.

This year’s optional, at-home program, led by elementary talented-and-gifted specialist Jeff Bressler, combines live instruction, recorded guides, as well as a Google Classroom and Flipgrid page for collaboration, according to the statement. Students work on their own ideas in any field they choose.

Recently, students from the first cycle shared work in an online celebration. Each student had a driving question. Chittick Elementary student Noah Natividad asked, “How can I improve my pirouette on parallel bars?” Noah set up a practice space in his house and created a video to demonstrate his learning.

Lawrence Brook Elementary student Melissa Nasralla asked, “How can I create a painting of a sunset?” She explored color mixing and created a painting.

Other projects included a handmade doll dress, articles and interactive books on a variety of topics, animations and videos, and an original coloring book by Lawrence Brook student Zoe Quan.
