Tinton Falls hires firm to assist with affordable housing responsibilities

TINTON FALLS – Municipal officials in Tinton Falls will retain the services of professionals who will assist them with affordable housing planning and administration.

During a recent meeting, Borough Council members authorized the awarding of a contract to CME Associates, Howell, for professional affordable housing planning services. The firm’s services are in an amount not to exceed $30,000. The contract is for 2021.

Council members also authorized CME Associates to provide professional affordable housing administration services to Tinton Falls. The firm’s services are in an amount not to exceed $34,000. The contract is for 2021.

Affordable housing is defined as housing that is sold or rented at below market rates to individuals and families whose income meets certain guidelines. Tinton Falls, like other municipalities in New Jersey, is mandated to provide affordable housing within its borders.

In other business, council members reappointed Melissa Hesler to serve as Tinton Falls’ municipal clerk for a three-year term. Hesler was previously appointed in 2018.

The municipal clerk’s office is responsible for, among duties, serving as the chief administrative official of all elections and the chief registrar of voters; preparing meeting agendas for Borough Council and attending all meetings with the responsibility of recording the minutes of the meetings; serving as the administrative officer responsible for licenses and permits; serving as the open public records official; and serving as the custodian of financial disclosure statements.

And, council members passed a resolution in support of two solar projects from the Solar Landscape community proposed at 30 Park Road and 46 Park Road.

The resolution states that the benefits of the projects include local clean power generation, support for active participation in the program by low-income and moderate-income families, a reduction of energy bills for all participants, and job training and support.

Finally, council members authorized the purchase of 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe 4×4 pursuit vehicles for the Tinton Falls Police Department. The three police vehicles were purchased from Gentilini Chevrolet, Woodbine, with a total cost of $113,877, according to a resolution.
