Preliminary investigation in fatal accident reveals woman made left turn against the light

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – A crash at the intersection of Route 130 and Deans Rhode Hall Road has claimed the life of a 70-year-old North Brunswick woman and left a 67-year-old South Brunswick man in critical condition.

The crash was reported at 6:21 p.m. Feb. 4.

The man was driving a 2017 Toyota RAV-4 southbound on Route 130. Deborah Apgar, 70, of North Brunswick, was driving a 2014 Subaru Legacy on Route 130 north and was attempting to make a left onto Deans Rhode Hall Road. The two vehicles collided in the intersection, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Police Department.

North Brunswick EMS and Monmouth Junction First Aid Squad members transported both drivers to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Apgar died at the hospital and the South Brunswick man is in critical condition, according to information released on Feb. 5.

Preliminary findings in the investigation revealed the South Brunswick man had a green light for southbound traffic on Route 130, when the North Brunswick woman entered the intersection to turn left, according to police.
