Immediate Care has opened its second, no-cost mobile COVID-19 testing center in the Raritan Bay area.
The newest one is located in the parking lot of the South Amboy Middle School, 200 Governor Hoffman Plaza, South Amboy. The facility is open from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
This is addition to the urgent care company’s existing testing site in the parking lot of Old Bridge High School on Route 516. Old Bridge offers testing from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
“The proportion of individuals with immunity against SARS-CoV-2 is probably between 10 and 20 percent at this point,” Immediate Care CEO Sal Cannizzaro said in a prepared statement. “Regardless of the ongoing mass vaccination program, there is still a substantial number of COVID-19 cases in New Jersey.”
Anyone who exhibits symptoms consistent with novel coronavirus infection — cough, fever, congestion, fatigue, headache, loss of sense of smell — should continue to get tested to help control the spread.
“And the same is certainly a fact for those who believe they may have been exposed to someone who has the virus, even if they themselves have been vaccinated or previously had COVID-19,” Cannizzaro said in the statement.
Testing will also continue to be a vital epidemiological tool, even as the disease goes from uncontrolled community spread to isolated outbreaks, he said.
“Free testing benefits all of the members of our community especially those on a fixed income or without insurance,” South Amboy Mayor Fred Henry said in the statement. “We are grateful to the South Amboy Public Schools for sharing this grant funded opportunity with the community at large.”
Immediate Care conducts drive-up saliva and nasal PCR testing. The dedicated testing centers can accommodate up to 300 tests a day, without an appointment.
The company now also offers mobile testing in six other central New Jersey municipalities: Carteret, Marlboro, Middletown, Plainsboro, Red Bank, and Woodbridge (two locations).
In northern New Jersey, Immediate Care mobile testing sites can be found in Bayonne, Cranford, Elizabeth, and Jersey City, with two sites.
Immediate Care requires a copy of each person’s driver’s license and insurance card to be tested. If an individual is uninsured, he or she should provide a Social Security card or number. Those who are uninsured will be covered through the federal government.
“COVID tests take 10 minutes to do,” Cannizzaro said in the statement. “People don’t need to enter a full-service urgent care clinic where they can potentially infect others or be infected. The mobile centers are ideal, with testing done safely, and people in and out quickly.”
