New Brunswick man charged with homicide at Farrington Inn in North Brunswick

A New Brunswick man has been charged for the murder of another at the Farrington Inn in North Brunswick.

Demond Gray, 43, of New Brunswick, was charged on March 21 with one count of first-degree murder, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Joseph Battaglia of the North Brunswick Township Police Department.

Officers from the North Brunswick Police Department responded to the Farrington Inn on Route 130 around noon on March 20 following an emergency call for an unresponsive male, according to the statement. Upon their arrival, authorities located Abdul Conteh, 60, of Somerset, who showed signs of physical injury. Conteh was later pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

An investigation by Detective Kerry Shutz of the North Brunswick Police Department and Detective Mark Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office revealed Gray allegedly assaulted and killed Conteh in the hotel room, according to the allegations.

The cause of death remains undetermined pending the completion of an autopsy by the Middlesex County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

Gray is presently lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick where he was being held pending a pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court, as of press time.
