Over the course of the past few months, the number of COVID-19 positive cases in South Brunswick fluctuated from a high of 117 cases in a single week during the peak of the second wave at the end of December, to a low of 29 cases in a week in mid-February.
Two weeks ago, the township registered 81 cases, and last week cases decreased to 51 in South Brunswick, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management.
The township is still experiencing a third wave, and residents need to act appropriately, officials said. With the number of residents traveling for spring break or meeting with others from outside their households, officials expect the numbers to rise before they decline once again. according to the statement.
There have been 27 cases reported in the past two days alone, and with the presence of the “variants of concern” in New Jersey, officials are asking residents to rethink plans that involve individuals from outside their households, avoid crowded areas and travel, and do all they can to reduce the spread of the virus, according to the statement.
The South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management is asking residents to double their efforts in the following areas:
- Wear a mask over the mouth and nose
- Avoid crowded areas
- Use social distancing by staying 6 feet apart
- Get vaccinated
This past week, township officials were notified of 51 new cases of residents testing positive. In addition, 15 cases were reported from previous weeks.
South Brunswick has recorded 2,393 residents with COVID over the past year.
This week, 19 women and 32 men tested positive with the average age being 37 years old.
There were five people under 18 who tested positive, according to the statement.
No new COVID-related fatalities were reported over the past week, and the total number of deaths remains at 61 since March 2020, according to the statement.
Statewide, 2,166 people are hospitalized due to COVID, a 15.8% increase in the number of hospitalizations from the previous week. Middlesex County saw its numbers increase to 76,078 total cases.
