A resident of Howell has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run motor vehicle incident after she allegedly struck and injured a 77-year-old female resident of Matawan on Freneau Avenue in Matawan on March 9, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced in an April 2 press release.
Gramiccioni said the injured woman was found along the roadside when Matawan police arrived at the scene.
The prosecutor said Jennifer B. Aretino, 36, of Howell, has been charged with third degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision with serious bodily injury and with numerous motor vehicle violations.
Aretino was charged on April 2 and released on a summons pending a court date, which has not been scheduled at this time.
On March 9, Matawan police officers responded to a 6:57 p.m. report of a person laying in the shoulder of the road in front of a business at 27 Freneau Ave. (Route 79).
Gramiccioni said the responding officers found a woman laying in the shoulder of the northbound lane of Freneau Avenue The woman was subsequently identified as a 77-year-old Matawan resident.
The woman was treated at the scene by Bayshore EMS and Hackensack Meridian ALS and then transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She remained hospitalized in stable condition as of April 2, according to the press release.
Aretino was arrested after evidence collected at the scene by Matawan police officers led to the identification of the type of vehicle believed to be responsible for the incident.
On March 29, a Matawan police officer conducted what Gramiccioni described as a routine motor vehicle stop at about 4:19 p.m. on Main Street. Aretino was identified as the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle in the March 9 incident.
If convicted of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision with serious bodily injury,
Arentino faces a sentence of three to five years in state prison, according to the press release.
