A fire of unknown origin destroyed an apartment building and left 24 families homeless after it raced through Building 8 on Taylor Court in the Avalon Watch rental apartment complex April 7, according to the West Windsor Police Department.

The fire at the apartment complex, off Clarksville Road, was reported at 3:17 p.m., police said. The building was fully engulfed in flames. The fire was elevated to a four-alarm fire, which means additional help was needed from mutual aid fire companies.
