ENGLISHTOWN – The Englishtown Borough Council has awarded a contract for a project to reconstruct three borough roads.
During a recent meeting, council members awarded a $435,413 contract to Earle Asphalt, Wall Township, for the reconstruction of Hamilton Street, Heritage Drive and Raymond Court.
Earle Asphalt was awarded the contract as the lowest responsible bidder, according to a resolution.
According to Borough Engineer Thomas Herits, other bids were submitted by S. Brothers ($446,229) and Esposito Construction ($458,448). Herits recommended that the council award the contract to Earle Asphalt.
To help pay for the work, Englishtown has received grants totaling $304,0000 from the New Jersey Department of Transportation, according to the resolution.
In other business, the council members authorized the signing of professional contracts with Herits as borough engineer; John Cantalupo as bond counsel; Robert Allison as bond counsel; Joseph Youssouf as borough attorney; Richard Kelly as municipal prosecutor; and Michael DuPont as public defender.
And, the council authorized $6,158 worth of repairs to a Dodge Charger sedan, a Dodge Charger and a Chevrolet Tahoe used by the Englishtown Police Department. The repairs were performed by the Monmouth County Public Works and Engineering Department.
Finally, council members awarded a contract not to exceed $30,037 to B&W Construction for repairs that followed a water line break that occurred on Feb. 11-12 at Wood Avenue and Hospitality Way. A crew from B&W Construction installed and repaired a water main pipe, according to a resolution.
According to the resolution, the water line break created an emergency that affected the public health and safety and required immediate work to the water infrastructure. As a result, the contract was awarded to B&W Construction on an emergency basis.
Municipal officials said B&W Construction was the only contractor that responded to the emergency which was certified to perform the work needed.
