The Middletown Arts Center is calling for submissions to The MAC One-Acts, a play-reading festival featuring original, one-act works by New Jersey playwrights. The deadline for entries is May 10th.

The MAC will present this year’s festival outside, under the arts center’s patio canopy, on June 9 at 7 p.m. The live reading will feature three selected plays read by local actors, according to a press release.

Submissions from playwrights age 13 and older will be accepted and must be original, unpublished scripts adhering to standard professional play format with a run time of no longer than 30 minutes. At this time, the festival is only open to New Jersey residents. The submission guidelines and form can be found at www.middletownarts.org/mac-one-acts

The deadline for entries is May 10 at 11:59 p.m. and the selection of finalists will be announced on May 14. For more information, email artscenter@middletownnj.org or call 732-706-4100.

Seating will be arranged in tables of two to four, as well as individual chairs, socially distanced. Reservations will be available on the MAC website beginning May 14 with a suggested donation. The Middletown Arts Center is at 36 Church St., Middletown.

 

Fourteen members of the Christian Brothers Academy Class of 2021 celebrated their commitments to play college athletics on April 14.

The following CBA senior student-athletes committed during spring signing period: Jason Asare, University of Chicago, Track and Field; Ethan Beyer, Muhlenberg College, Soccer; Chris DeSousa, Penn State University, Cross Country/Track;

And, Henry Escandon, Catholic University, Baseball; Colin Farrell, Gettysburg College, Basketball; Adrian Foley, Columbia University, Crew; Joseph Giamanco, Hofstra University, Golf;

Also, Joseph Marini, Catholic University, Baseball; Jack Martinek, Stevens Institute of Technology, Swimming; Brendan McHugh, Tufts University, Crew; John Morreale, Stevens Institute of Technology, Fencing;

And, Sam Nini, Davidson College, Wrestling; Christian Ricci, Cornell University, Track and Field; and Colin Stevens, Sacred Heart University, Volleyball.

These 14 seniors join the 13 classmates who made their college athletic commitments in the fall of 2020, according to a press release.

“On behalf of the entire CBA community, I would like to congratulate these young men and
their families on their great achievement,” Director of Athletics Michael Mazzaccaro said.
“Through countless hours of hard work spent on both academics and athletics, these
student-athletes have proven themselves worthy of competing and excelling at the next
level.”
