Hillsborough residents can now donate their gently used books while giving back to the community, thanks to a partnership between Hillsborough Township and the Rotary Club of Hillsborough.
Residents can drop off their books at the New Legacy Books bin located at the Hillsborough Municipal Complex in the parking lot adjacent to the soccer fields. New Legacy Books will collect and resell the books, donating a portion of the proceeds to the Rotary Club of Hillsborough Foundation. These proceeds benefit the Hillsborough community, according to information provided by the township.
“We are always happy to partner with the Rotary Club of Hillsborough,” Hillsborough mayor and member of the Rotary Club, Shawn Lipani, said in the statement. “By supporting this fundraising project, we are also supporting our town.”
New Legacy Books is a for-profit business founded by two Monmouth University graduates who made it their mission to give back to their communities through the sale and redistribution of donated books, according to the statement.
Residents can drive up to the bin at any time to deposit gently used books, including text books, novels, non-fiction, children’s books and cookbooks.
“This partnership with New Legacy Books is one of those rare, win/win opportunities,” Rich Salem, president of the Rotary Club of Hillsborough, said in the statement. “Families have an opportunity to clean out their bookshelves while helping to fund a variety of community service projects and charitable contributions led by Rotary.”
“Our township government immediately endorsed this plan and provided a prime location for the bin,” Ben Rozenblat, incoming president of the Rotary Club, said in the statement. “The funds generated by the book donations will be used to support everything from post-secondary school scholarships to gift cards distributed to local food-insecure families by the Hillsborough Community Action Network.”
The Hillsborough Rotary Club currently has 33 active members from Hillsborough and surrounding communities. All funds raised at the Rotary Fair are donated back to community projects.
The Hillsborough Rotary Club meets every first and third Wednesday, at 6:15 p.m., currently via Zoom.
