There won’t be any political party primary fights in East Windsor or Hightstown when the Democratic and Republican Party primaries roll around on June 8.
In East Windsor, Anna Lustenberg is the only Republican Party member to have filed a nominating petition to seek her party’s nod to run for one of three open seats on the East Windsor Township Council.
Council incumbents Denise Daniels and Alan Rosenberg, along with newcomer David Russell – all Democrats – are seeking the Democratic Party nomination to run for three open seats. They could not be reached for comment.
Lustenberg, who served on the East Windsor Township Council in the mid-1990s, is a 35-year resident of the township. She retired in 2012 from Verizon as its director of External Affairs.
During her tenure on the East Windsor council, Lustenberg served on the Planning Board, the Economic Development Committee, the Commission on Aging and the Environmental Commission.
“I am running for East Windsor Township Council to serve our residents and to add a new voice on the council. For too long, there has been one-party rule with little or no discussion in public on key issues,” she said. “First and foremost, keeping taxes low is my most important goal.”
Lustenberg said she would plan to attend East Windsor Regional School District school board meetings to learn about the issues, find out why the school district raises the property tax every year, and to explore potential inter-local agreements that would save money.
To increase transparency, Lustenberg said, she would encourage the Township Council to post copies of resolutions and ordinances that are listed on its meeting agenda in advance of the meeting. She pointed out that the West Windsor Township Council posts copies of the resolutions and ordinances on its website.
Across the municipal border in Hightstown Borough, incumbent Borough Council members Susan Bluth and Dimitri Musing filed their nominating petitions by the April 5 deadline to be listed on the Democratic Party primary ballot.
Bluth and Musing could not be reached for comment.
