METUCHEN — Get outside this weekend and provide input to help the borough plan for the future of Metuchen’s parks, open spaces and trails.
Beginning May 15, residents will be able to provide their ideas on the conditions, needs and uses of borough parks, playing fields and other recreational spaces as the borough launches the new Greenprint initiative.
Mayor Jonathan Busch introduced the new initiative, “Greenprint: A Plan for Metuchen Recreation, Open Space and Trails,” at the May 10 council meeting.
According to Busch, the input provided will inform the borough’s plans to make needed reinvestments and upgrades to open spaces and recreational fields to ensure they meet the current needs of the community.
Live events this weekend
Beginning this weekend, the borough will host live events to allow people to learn more and offer their best ideas for borough recreation.
On May 15, fields and facilities will be the focus and there will be Greenprint input stations during baseball and softball games at Oakland Park from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Moss School from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Vidas Park from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and Hampton Park from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
There will also be a Greenprint input station during soccer matches on May 17 at the Edgar Middle School field from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The initiative will continue May 22, when the focus will be on improvements to Trailhead Park, extending the Middlesex Greenway and access to the Dismal Swamp. On that day, there will be tour groups leaving from Trailhead Park at 10 a.m.
According to the mayor, information will be provided on how to sign up for a tour of the spaces and plans are to make it possible for residents to provide input online.
