Mayor Stephen Dalina, in partnership with Sewa International, raised more than $5,500 in COVID-19 relief funds on May 6 to help India as the country navigates a second wave of the pandemic.

The funds will be used to purchase supplies and ensure appropriate medical equipment such as oxygen-concentrators and ventilators are acquired and shipped to hospitals across Bharat, according to a statement provided by the township.

“I am continually in awe of the sense of community the residents of Monroe Township display,” Dalina said in the statement. “My heart goes out to members of the South Asian community as the number of daily cases in India continues to grow. I ask for the continued support of our residents as we collect donations and help India navigate this crisis in any way we can.”

To donate, send checks payable to Sewa International Inc. and mail to Sewa International Inc, P.O. Box 820867, Houston, TX 77282-0867.
