On May 14, James Harris of Parlin ended his college career with a diploma and a new car.
Harris was the winner of Rider University’s annual Cruisin’ From Commencement contest, organized by the university’s student-run radio station, 107.7 The Bronc WRRC-FM.

His grand prize included a two-year lease on a new 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE and ToyotaCare, a vehicle maintenance and roadside assistance plan, for two years courtesy of Team Toyota of Princeton.

“It was the icing on the cake of an already very special graduation day, and I feel honored to have played this small part in Rider’s history,” he said.

Since 2016, graduating students have competed for the chance to win a new Toyota vehicle by submitting a video about their Rider experience. In his winning video, Harris reflects on the wealth of opportunities he had to perform and grow as a voice performance major at Westminster Choir College of Rider University.

“I truly have lived my dream,” he says in his video. “Studying at Rider has provided me with the unique opportunity to perform all around the world from Beijing, China, to California, Charleston, South Carolina, Philadelphia and New York.”

The winner was determined by a panel of judges who narrowed down the entries to 10 finalists. At the grand finale event, held on May 14, the finalists were given keys to test the new car’s alarm. Harris’ key was the only one to make it sound, claiming his prize.

“Cruisin’ From Commencement provides the students of 107.7 The Bronc the opportunity to market, brand and execute a large-scale contest and event,” said John Mozes, general manager for 107.7 The Bronc. “It also allows the Class of 2021 to share the experiences that made their Rider University journey so incredible and drive away from campus with more than their diploma.”

Team Toyota of Princeton, who has sponsored the contest since its inception, is proud to continue its partnership with 107.7 The Bronc, says Doug Zenzel, director of marketing for Team Toyota of Princeton.

“We’re inspired each year by the stories and journeys of the students who participate in Cruisin’ From Commencement,” he said.
