North Brunswick Library announces June adult programs

The North Brunswick Library will hold the following programs for adults during June:

Using a Grid for Drawing with April Zay on June 7 at 7 p.m.

Participants in this virtual workshop will learn how to create and use a grid to enlarge drawings or make accurate drawings from photographs. You’ll need a printout or photocopy of a photograph you wish to draw. Any size is fine, but preferably between 4″x6″ and 8″x10″. Printouts can be black and white or color.

You’ll also need the following supplies: a pencil, paper and a ruler.

Health Insurance Literacy Seminar on June 8 at 6 p.m.

Join New Jersey Citizen Action for a free health insurance literacy workshop.

Topics will include:

• Best ways to understand your health insurance benefits
• What do terms like premium, deductibles and co-insurance mean?
• Primary care doctor vs. specialist doctors

Learn about the skills and educational requirements needed to become a social worker.

Don’t Get Scammed! on June 22 at 7 p.m.

From the IRS phone scam to lottery and sweepstakes scams, to the so-called grandparent scam, it appears that imposter frauds and other criminal scams are more active than ever — and are preying on potential victims in New Jersey through phone calls, emails and other means.

Join Melanie Hazim from the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs as she discusses how to avoid getting scammed.

Virtual Fiber Arts Club on June 4 and 25, 10-11 a.m.

Work on a current project (embroidery, cross stitch, knitting, crocheting, weaving, etc.) and enjoy the company of others. This club will meet on most alternate Fridays during the summer.

Outdoor Tai Chi June 5 and 26 at 10 a.m.

Attendees age 16 and up are invited to join teacher Vikram Sarath for safe and free Tai Chi sessions on the library’s lawn.

Beginners are welcome.

Social distancing will be observed. Appropriate face coverings are required until class begins.

Sessions are weather permitting.

No registration is required.

Outdoor Mindfulness Meditation on June 7, 14, 21 and 28 at 7 p.m.

Mindfulness is the practice of bringing one’s attention to the internal and external experiences occurring in the present moment, which can be developed through the practice of meditation.

Taught by Dr. Siobhán Gibbons Ed.D. a licensed psychologist in New Jersey.

Sessions will be held on the library’s lawn facing Hermann Road.

Bring a lawn chair and mask.

The Wellness Challenge on June 23 at 7 p.m.

Join BCBS NJ for Wellness Activities via Zoom with the tools and resources you need to help manage and improve your health.

Prevention topics are covered in a fun “Jeopardy!” game format. Game boards cover topics such as health promotion, screenings, immunizations, diabetes, and bone and joint health.
