Tomazic announces Sept. 1 retirement as Freehold Borough superintendent

FREEHOLD – After more than eight years of service to the Freehold Borough K-8 School District, Superintendent of Schools Rocco Tomazic is retiring from his position.

The Board of Education accepted Tomazic’s retirement notification on May 17. His retirement will become effective on Sept. 1.

Tomazic was appointed superintendent of Freehold Borough’s schools in 2013.

According to his biography, Tomazic has worked in education for 24 years, including as a teacher, vice principal and assistant superintendent.

Prior to becoming superintendent in Freehold Borough, he was the superintendent of schools in the Linden School District, Union County.

He has served as an instructor at the University of Maryland, at Rutgers University and at Rider University.

Prior to becoming an educator, Tomazic served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, retiring as a commander. He has resided in Freehold Township since 1992.

“I have been very honored to lead the Freehold Borough public schools for more than eight years. During that time, we have made excellent progress in addressing three of our biggest challenges: overcrowding, underfunding and academic performance.

“I am very appreciative to the faculty and staff for all their hard work, and to the Board of Education and our parents and guardians for putting the interests of the students first. The future of Freehold Borough is very bright,” Tomazic said.
