KEYPORT – The Keyport Borough Council has authorized the purchase of body-worn cameras and related equipment for the officers of the Keyport Police Department.
During a meeting on May 18, council members passed a resolution authorizing the body-worn cameras to be purchased from Motorola/Watch Guard. The cost of the cameras and related equipment is not to exceed $50,000.
According to the resolution, the contract for the body-worn cameras and related equipment was recommended by Police Chief Shannon Torres.
The Borough Council’s action followed a state mandate signed by Gov. Phil Murphy in November 2020 that requires all police officers in New Jersey to wear a body camera. Police departments were required to comply with the mandate by June.
In other business, council members authorized a shared services agreement with the Keyport Public Schools Board of Education for maintenance, custodial and public works services.
Under the terms of the agreement, maintenance and custodial staff members in the school district will provide services and/or equipment to the borough, and borough public works employees will provide services and/or equipment to the school district.
The schedule of days, hours and duties of the employees with be decided by Anthony Rapolla, the business administrator of the school district, and Jay Delaney, the borough administrator, according to the agreement.
