East Brunswick police will receive body cameras

EAST BRUNSWICK–The Township Council approved a resolution authorizing the purchasing of body-worn cameras and equipment for the East Brunswick Police Department.

The township is a member of the National Cooperative Purchasing Alliance (NCPA). The NCPA has awarded Axon Enterprise, 17800 North 85th St., Scottsdale, Arizona, a competitively bid contract, according to the council.

The body-worn cameras, hardware, licensing and storage to be purchased are from Axon Enterprise and are fully equipped to perform public safety duties, according to the council.

The council approved a resolution authorizing a $447,525 purchase for body cameras and related equipment for the East Brunswick Police Department on May 30 during the council meeting via video conference.

The chief financial officer certifies under rule 5;30-5.3 that available funds of $447,525 have been made for the purchase of the body-worn cameras, hardware, licensing and storage, according to the council.

“The East Brunswick Police Department is currently in the acquisition phase and actively working with the vendor on the purchase. At this time, there is no solidified date when the equipment will be received from the vendor.

“Once the equipment is received, implementation will commence. All officers required to wear body cameras will receive training before deployment,” Lt. Frank Sutter said.
