Middlesex County Regional Vaccine Mega-site will administer last first-dose vaccines on June 26

EDISON – After six months of operation and issuing more than 300,000 vaccines, the Middlesex County Regional COVID-19 Vaccine Mega-site in Edison will shut down.

Operated by RWJBarnabas Health, the Army National Guard, Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Middlesex County, the mega-site will administer its final round of vaccines on June 26 and the last second doses will be administered on July 17.

All six of New Jersey’s vaccine mega-sites are beginning to wind down after having administered nearly 2 million shots as the state moves to a more community-based model for vaccinations, according to information provided by RWJBarnabas Health on June 11.

Many community-based venues for vaccines will remain across New Jersey, and vaccine access will continue throughout all RWJBarnabas Health hospitals, according to the statement.

Nearly 4.5 million people have been fully vaccinated in New Jersey as of June 4 and over 5 million people have received at least one vaccine dose, according to the statement.

RWJBarnabas Health continues to work to help the state achieve its goal of having 70% of the state’s eligible population — about 4.7 million people — vaccinated by the end of this month.

“We are proud to have helped so many residents protect themselves, their families and others from the virus and remain committed to helping New Jersey reach their 70% vaccination goal. We appreciate everyone who worked to make the site a success from our medical staff to our volunteers and every resident who rolled up their sleeves to get vaccinated,” Bonnie Geissler, MHA, RN, vice president of Special Projects for RWJBarnabas Health, said in the statement.
