Authorities search for hit-and-run driver in serious accident

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, in conjunction with the Edison Police Department, are actively investigating a serious hit-and-run motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian which occurred on Woodbridge Avenue at Plainfield Avenue in Edison.

The accident occurred on June 12 at approximately 5:26 p.m. Authorities believe the pedestrian, a 64-year-old female from Edison, was struck while crossing Woodbridge Avenue by a late model Mazda SUV, possibly a CX30 or CX5, according to a statement released by the Edison Police Department.

The vehicle left the scene of the accident heading eastbound on Woodbridge Avenue at a high rate of speed without stopping, police said. The female victim sustained head and body injuries and is currently in stable condition in I.C.U. at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Family notification is pending at this time.
