“The work of a school board has become increasingly complex, but rest assured, if you are elected or appointed to your school board, you won’t ‘go it alone,’ ” said NJSBA President Irene LeFebvre. “With the New Jersey School Boards Association offering support and training, you will find your term of service on your district board extremely rewarding.”

The filing deadline for school board candidacy in the November 2021 election is 4 p.m. July 26. Nominating petitions are filed with the county clerk.

The Monmouth County Park System is hosting its Freshwater Fishing Derby on June 19-20. The derby is open to beginner and experienced anglers. The event also features free fishing clinics.

The fun starts on June 19 at the Manasquan Reservoir in Howell with a hands-on fishing clinic from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Park system staff will discuss how to cast and rig and will answer questions. The fishing derby will be held from 2-5 p.m.

On June 20, the action moves to Turkey Swamp Park, Freehold Township. A free hands-on fishing clinic will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m., followed by the fishing derby from 2-5 p.m., according to a press release.

Prizes will be awarded each day for the longest fish in three different categories. Anglers can bring their own fishing pole or rent one for $5. The cost of each day of the fishing derby is $25 per family of four, or $8 per person. A container of worms is included with each registration. Pre-registration is suggested; walk-ins are welcome.
