South River council introduces $1.4M bond ordinance for various capital improvements

SOUTH RIVER–The Borough Council introduced a $1.486 million bond ordinance, which if adopted, will partially fund various capital improvements throughout the municipality.

The various capital improvements will include:

- Advertisement -
  • The purchasing of a sanitation truck, mason dump truck, dump truck, pickup truck, lawnmowers and containers;
  • Improvements to the South River Police Department’s kitchen, locker room and evidence storage room; and the purchasing of Alcotest machine and other equipment;
  • The replacement of hoses, air bottles and gear;
  • Road improvements to Albourne Street, Ferris Street and Clayton Road; and various sewer system improvements;

The borough is expected to receive $475,575 in grant funds from the Department of Transportation for the improvements to Albourne Street, Ferris Street and Clayton Road, according to the council.

For the purchasing of various public works vehicles and equipment, the borough is expecting to receive $34,500 in grant funding from the NJMTG Program, according to the council.

The council introduced and approved the bond ordinance – which, if adopted, will partially fund $2.075 million in total various capital improvements – on June 14 during the council meeting via video conference.

The down payment of $78,925 required by the Local Bond Law is now available by virtue of provision for down payment or for capital improvement purposes in the Capital Improvement Fund of one or more previously adopted budgets, according to the council.

The second and final reading is scheduled for July 12.

This bond ordinance will take effect 20 days after the first publication then after final adoption, as provided by the Local Bond Law, according to the council.
