The eighth annual Howell-Farmingdale 5K Run and Race Walk will be held in memory of Jake Bukowiec, John Bukowiec Jr., Jared Crippen, Craig Held, William Johnson, Brian McDonough, Bubba O’Reilly, Waler Reitsma, Naneisha Rivera and former Howell mayor Robert Walsh.
The event will benefit CONTACT of Ocean and Monmouth Counties crisis intervention and suicide prevention hotline. The event will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 25 at Howell High School. There is a virtual option to be held from Aug. 18-25.
According to a press release, events will include the 5K Run and Race Walk on roads in Howell and Farmingdale. All ages are welcome; awards to top male and female overall, plus age group awards for the 5K run.

The Jersey Shore Association for Human Resources has announced the 2021 recipients of the Ann C. Edwards Scholarships. One recipient is Alyssa Marie Bannach, the daughter of JSAHR member Lori Skowrenski Bannach.
Alyssa, who is a resident of Jackson, attends Jackson Liberty High School. She received $1,000 to further her education at Ocean County College.
The scholarships, awarded annually to the son or daughter of a JSAHR member, are part of the organization’s commitment to building the future through the education of young adults. The scholarship is named in honor of Ann C. Edwards.
Edwards, who is retired, was a founding member and past president of the JSAHR.
The Jackson Township Council has authorized an appropriation of $4 million for the purchase of capital equipment and the completion of improvements throughout the community.
A bond ordinance was adopted by the members of the governing body on June 15. The ordinance authorizes the issuance of $2.85 million in bonds and notes to support the total $4 million appropriation.
According to the ordinance, the improvements will include: road/drainage and sidewalk improvements ($1.75 million); the acquisition and outfitting of new police vehicles ($500,000); recreation improvements, including turf repair and playground improvements ($1.31 million); records retention for all municipal departments ($50,000); and public works improvements and equipment acquisition ($390,000).
