FREEHOLD – Two members of a Boy Scout troop that is based in Freehold Borough have been recognized for attaining the highest rank in Boy Scouting.
During a recent meeting, members of the Borough Council passed resolutions honoring Brandon Christian Brabham and Robert Magliozzi for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.
Both young men are residents of Marlboro and are members of Freehold BSA Troop 18.
According to a resolution, Brandon created a memorial at his church, the Monmouth Worship Center, Marlboro, for unborn babies and children who have passed away.
The memorial has benches for reflection, paver stones inscribed with personalized messages from those who have lost a child and a memorial stone that carries the biblical inscription “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.”
Brandon’s project took about 100 hours and cost $1,500 to complete, according to the resolution. The Monmouth Worship Center continues to offer pavers to be purchased to memorialize the loss of a child.
According to a resolution, Robert designed, constructed and supervised the building and painting of four picnic tables and four traffic barriers for the St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church religious education program in Marlboro.
The project took more than 500 hours to complete and provides outdoor seating for the religious education program.
The picnic tables are used by students, teachers and clergy for outdoor religious activities and meals. The traffic barriers provide safety for the children while they move from the religious education building to the church and parish center.
Brandon and Robert have attended Marlboro High School, according to the resolutions.
Brandon was a member of the National Honor Society and the Junior Statesmen of America and Anytown – Leaders for Diversity. He also earned the New Jersey Care Award for Outstanding Service.
Robert participated in the Rutgers Model Congress, served on the Current Events Club board and participated in the History Club. He organized a book drive for the Freehold Learning Center elementary school in Freehold Borough.
Brandon plans to pursue a career in writing and self-published a novel.
Robert plans to attend Seton Hall University, where he received the Servant Leadership Scholarship, and pursue a dual degree program with a major in secondary education and a master’s degree in speech language pathology, with intentions of becoming a history teacher.
“The mayor and council of the Borough of Freehold are aware of the significant efforts associated with the attainment of the rank of Eagle Scout and are of the opinion that individuals who attain excellence in chosen fields of endeavor, such as the Scouts BSA, are deserving of recognition and commendation by their community,” municipal officials wrote in the resolutions that were presented to the two young men.
