EAST BRUNSWICK – A young girl wanting to create better living conditions for the elderly beautified the common room at an assisted living shelter.

Isabella Pereira, a Girl Scout ambassador in Girl Scout Troop 80812 in East Brunswick, recently completed her Girl Scout Gold Award Project, which is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn, by completing an 80-hour service and leadership project.

For her project, she renovated the common room at an assisted living facility in Jamesburg.

“Good living conditions can directly impact emotional well-being and foster better social relationships, so I wanted to make the common room brighter and uplifting. Through fundraising, I was able to raise enough money to repaint the common room, add comfy new chairs to the room, a new TV and TV stand, new floor lamps, a new bookshelf, and stimulating books and games to the room,” she said.

On a few Sundays, she went with her grandmother to volunteer at the facility.

“For my Girl Scout Gold Award Project, I was inspired to renovate and add furniture and stimulating games to the common room, as I realized not everyone is fortunate enough to have amazing living conditions, but everyone deserves to have the best conditions possible,” she said.
