The Township Council in Aberdeen Township has authorized a $154,525 contract with Shore Top Construction Corp., Freehold, for the Midland Park basketball court improvements.
Bids for the project were received on June 17. Shore Top Construction Corp. was the lowest responsive responsible bidder, according to the council.
The contract was awarded to the company during a meeting on July 8.
The planned improvements include sidewalk repair; basketball court color coating; new poles, padding, backboard, nets and breakaway goals; site work on soil erosion and sediment control; and curb improvements.
In May, the New Jersey Department of Education (DOE) conducted roundtable discussions with students from around the state to discuss their experiences with remote learning during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Student voices will be critical as we move forward and work to provide the academic, social and emotional support necessary for students and staff to successfully address the challenges they faced throughout the pandemic,” Acting Education Commissioner Dr. Angelica Allen McMillian said. “These student roundtables provided us with much-needed insight as we prepare for the full reopening of schools.”

A total of 12 sessions were convened as a platform for students to share their experiences and offer their insights regarding the remote learning experience. Each roundtable consisted of between five and nine students, with a total of 85 students participating.
School counselors were available after the virtual student roundtable discussions for a debriefing session to ensure students’ emotional and behavioral needs were met, according to the press release.
The DOE asked high school administrators throughout the state to recommend students for the roundtables with diverse backgrounds who could provide a wide array of insights.
Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. (D-NJ) has announced that requests for community funded projects he submitted to the Appropriations Committee for New Jersey’s Sixth Congressional District will advance in the House of Representatives.
These requests are included in House appropriations bills that are expected to receive a vote on the House of Representatives floor in the upcoming months, according to a press release.
The projects include:
• $8 million for maintenance dredging of Shoal Harbor near the Belford section of Middletown that will bring relief to local boaters, businesses and community members who depend on safe and navigable waterways;
• $480,000 to hire additional researchers at the James J. Howard Marine Sciences Lab at Sandy Hook who will study the impacts of environmental change on marine habitats and fisheries in New Jersey. Funding will also be used to create lab space to host underserved student populations at Sandy Hook;
• $450,000 for research on coastal community resilience conducted by Monmouth University in conjunction with Naval Weapons Station Earle that will help improve understanding of coastal resiliency to combat extreme flooding and bad weather events;
$450,000 to help Keyport elevate the existing bulkhead at Fireman’s Park to mitigate flooding events in the borough’s downtown business district.
We Care Adult Care, 500 Route 35 South, at the Union Square Mall in Middletown, will reopen on Aug. 2 after being closed during the coronavirus pandemic. When the business reopens, it will follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines to protect the health and safety of members, according to a press release.
