The tractor trailer was stopped on the shoulder of Route 32 at the entrance to the NJ Turnpike when the box truck struck it, according to reports. The impact pushed the tractor trailer forward and crushed the cab of the box truck.

The driver, Kennidy John, 20, of Ocean Township, was trapped in the cab of the box truck, according to the statement.

Members of the Monmouth Junction Fire Department and Monroe Township Fire District 3 responded to the scene and extricated John from the box truck. He was transported by South Brunswick EMS and paramedics to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with serious but non life-threatening injuries, according to the statement.

Route 32 East was closed for approximately 45 minutes during the extrication.

Leung is investigating the cause of the crash, officials said.
