Driver sustains serious injuries during Route 1 collision

WEST WINDSOR – The driver of a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze suffered head and facial injuries and was left unconscious after his car plowed into the rear end of a 2018 Audi Q7 sport utility vehicle on Route 1 North near Carnegie Center Boulevard on July 21, according to the West Windsor Police Department.

The driver of the Audi Q7 was slowing down for a red traffic signal when the collision occurred shortly after 1 p.m., police said. There were no indications the driver of the Chevrolet was trying to slow down or stop before striking the Audi Q7.

When the first police officer arrived at the scene of the collision, he found the driver of the Chevrolet was unconscious and injured. The officer broke the driver’s side window to pull the injured driver from the car. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and had smashed his face into the windshield.

The driver was not breathing and had no pulse, police said. Emergency medical technicians and paramedics from the West Windsor Division of Fire and Emergency Services and the Mobile Intensive Care Unit arrived and took over the care of the driver.

The EMTs and the paramedics revived the individual and took him to the Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton for treatment, police said. The man sustained what police described as non-life threatening head and facial injuries in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the West Windsor Police Department Traffic Unit. Witnesses or anyone with additional information about the July 21 collision is asked to contact Sgt. Bal at Bal@westwindsorpolice.com or to call 609-799-1222.
