Hopewell Township house destroyed by fire

A Hopewell Township family has been left homeless after a fire destroyed their home on Pennington-Titusville Road on July 21, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.

The residents noticed an odor of smoke and when they investigated, they found smoke coming from the second floor of the house. They called 911 to report the fire shortly after 7 p.m.

Volunteer firefighters from the Pennington Fire Department, the Hopewell Fire Department and Emergency Medical Unit, the Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad, the Ewing Township Fire Department, the West Trenton Fire Company and the Lawrenceville Fire Company responded to the scene, along with the Upper Makefield Fire Department from Pennsylvania.

The house sustained fire, smoke and water damage, and has been declared uninhabitable, police said. Pennington-Titusville Road was closed for two hours while firefighters battled the flames.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious, but it is under investigation by the Hopewell Township Police Department, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
