Officials in Freehold Township are continuing a shared services agreement to temporarily provide Manalapan with the availability of a health officer for the remainder of the year.
On July 13, the Township Committee authorized an agreement that will temporarily provide Manalapan with the services of Margaret Jahn, who is Freehold Township’s health officer.
According to a resolution, Jahn will serve as Manalapan’s temporary acting health officer on a month-to-month basis. Manalapan will be charged $3,500 per month for the service.
The health officer services will be provided through Dec. 31, according to the resolution.
And, Township Committee members awarded an $845,414 contract to Meco Inc. for the 2021 fall pavement overlay program and the 2021 municipal aid program, which includes the second phase of work to Iron Bridge Road.
Other bids seeking the contract were submitted by L&L Paving Company ($1.08 million); Black Rock Enterprises, LLC, ($1.009 million); S&G Paving Inc. ($1.005 million); Lima Charlie Construction ($984,501); and Earle Asphalt Company ($899,413).
The committee awarded a contract not to exceed $17,000 for the removal of diseased ash trees at Michael J. Tighe Park. The contract was awarded to Central Jersey Tree Experts.
Finally, the committee awarded a $28,900 contract to Albitron LLC for the restoration and replacement of the roof at the historic one-room Georgia Road school.
There will be one contested race for a three-year term on the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education in the Nov. 2 general election.
Three three-years terms on the board will be on the ballot this year: the terms representing Manalapan, Freehold Borough and one of two terms representing Howell.
The contested race is for the Manalapan seat on the school board. Incumbent board member Adam Weiss is being challenged by Jamie Bruno. Under the board’s voting rules, residents of Manalapan and Englishtown will vote for Weiss or Bruno.
In Freehold Borough, incumbent board member Harold “Heshy” Moses is running unopposed for re-election. Under the board’s voting rules, residents of Freehold Borough and Freehold Township will vote for Moses.
In Howell, incumbent board member Peter Bruno, who is currently serving as the panel’s president, is running unopposed for re-election. Under the board’s voting rules, residents of Howell and Farmingdale will vote for Bruno.
The nine-member board represents the district’s eight sending municipalities and oversees the operation of the FRHSD’s high schools in Colts Neck, Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Howell, Manalapan and Marlboro.
For 45 years, 180 Turning Lives Around, a private nonprofit organization in Monmouth County, has provided confidential support and advocacy to victims of domestic violence in the aftermath of a highly emotional and traumatic experience with the assistance of its response team volunteers throughout Monmouth County.
180’s volunteer Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT) Victim Advocates are civilian members of the community who work with law enforcement to provide support, information and resources to victims of domestic violence, according to a press release.
The free, confidential service of the DVRT program is available for victims of domestic violence, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at police departments in Monmouth County.
New DVRT volunteer victim advocates are being sought now. A mandatory 40-hour training course for new volunteer victim advocates is being conducted by 180 staff remotely via Zoom from Oct. 5-28. Training will be provided free of charge to successful applicants.
Basic requirements for volunteers to apply include that they must be 18 years of age or older, have access to reliable transportation, possess a valid driver’s license, be willing to serve on an on-call shift basis, participate in an interview process, submit to background investigations and fingerprinting, and successfully complete the mandatory training.
