South River council adopts $1.4M bond ordinance for capital upgrades

SOUTH RIVER–The Borough Council adopted a $1.486 million bond ordinance, which will partially fund $2.075 million in various capital improvements throughout the municipality.

The various improvements will consist of:

- Advertisement -
  • The purchase of various public works vehicles and equipment, including a sanitation truck, a mason dump truck, a dump truck, a pick-up truck, lawnmowers and containers.
  • The purchase of various police vehicles and equipment and building improvements for the South River Police Department, including improvements to the kitchen, locker room and evidence storage room, and acquisition of Alcotest machine and other equipment.
  • The purchase of various equipment for the South River Fire Department, including the replacement of hoses, air bottles and gear.
  • Road improvements to various roads located in the borough, including Albourne Street, Ferris Street and Clayton Road and various sewer systems.

The council adopted and approved the bond ordinance on Aug. 2 during the council meeting held at South River Middle School.

The improvements will also be partially paid with a $34,500 in grant funds received from the New Jersey Municipal Tonnage Grant Program, and $475,575 in grant funds are expected to be received from the New Jersey Department of Transportation, according to the council.

A $78,925 down payment is available in the Capital Improvement Fund from one or more previously adopted budgets, according to the council.

This bond ordinance will take effect 20 days after the first publication and after final adoption, as provided by the Local Bond Law, according to the council.
