In the wake of the resignation of school board member Jonathan Dauber, Lawrence Township school district officials are seeking applicants to fill the vacancy.

The Lawrence Township Public Schools Board of Education is expected to formally accept Dauber’s resignation at its Aug. 11 meeting. Dauber resigned for personal reasons. His term would have expired in January 2023.

Dauber had served on the school board since 2017. He served on several school board committees, and was the board’s liaison to the Lawrence Township Council.

The deadline to apply to fill the vacancy created by Dauber’s resignation is Aug. 20 at noon.

Prospective school board members should email a letter of interest to school board Secretary Thomas Eldridge, including information about themselves and why they want to serve on the school board. It should be sent to teldridge@ltps.org.

To be eligible to serve on the school board, an applicant must be a citizen of the United States and have lived in Lawrence Township for at least one year. An applicant must be at least 18 years old, and able to read and write. He or she must be registered to vote.

The school board expects to fill the vacancy at its Aug. 25 meeting. Applicants will be interviewed in public, and then the school board will go into closed session to discuss and choose a new member. The board will make its announcement when it comes back into open session.

The newly-appointed school board member will fill Dauber’s unexpired term, ending in January 2023. The seat will be up for election in the November 2022 general election.
