West Windsor house damaged by fire

A two-story house in the 200 block of South Lane was damaged by a fire that started in the basement on Aug. 5, according to the West Windsor Police Department.

The fire was reported at 2:29 p.m. The first police officer on the scene reported that smoke was coming out of the house. The residents, including the family dog, evacuated safely, police said.

The house suffered fire, smoke and water damage. There were no injuries to the residents or the firefighters.

The West Windsor Volunteer Fire Company and the Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Company responded, along with the West Windsor Division of Fire & Emergency Services, responded to the fire.

A call for mutual aid was initiated for help in fighting the fire. The Cranbury Volunteer Fire Company, the Monroe Township Fire Department No. 2, Hamilton Township Fire Department Engine Co. 18 and the Plainsboro Fire Company responded.

The Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad and Robbinsville EMS also responded.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the West Windsor Police Department Detective Bureau and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Unit.
