Hopewell Township appoints director of Public Works as new township administrator

The Hopewell Township Committee has officially appointed George Snyder as the township’s new administrator.

Snyder, who has been serving as the acting administrator since January, replaces former administrator Elaine Cruickshank-Borges, whose retirement went into effect on Jan. 1.

Snyder has also been the township’s director of Public Works.

“I enthusiastically accept the role as township administrator and look forward to the challenges and rewards of the position. Public service is not just a job, it is a passion for me,” Snyder said. “I have always enjoyed Hopewell. I am happy to be part of the team responsible for the township.”

He added that his vision is to balance the township’s history with modern programs to make Hopewell a welcoming, safe and affordable community.

“Thank you to everyone for their support. I am motivated by the projects on our plan and horizon such as the redevelopment plan, Lawrence Hopewell Trail trail extension, community center and building our team.”

Mayor Julie Blake, Deputy Mayor Courtney Peters-Manning, Township Committeeman Kevin Kuchinski, Township Committeeman Michael Ruger, and Township Committeewoman Kristin McLaughlin unanimously voted “yes” to appointing Snyder to the position during a virtual meeting on Aug. 16.

“I was fairly new on committee when we went through the process of hiring a new Public Works director. I was new to the job and did not know what kind of a person we would need to take on that job,” McLaughlin said. “I remember the interviews and thinking I would hire this guy to do more than anything. That immediate faith in George Snyder’s capabilities has been rewarded over and over.”

Adding to the Township Committee members’ praise, Kuchinski said Snyder had been everything the Township Committee hoped for.

“It was worth the wait when we were hiring for the director of Public Works and you have really grown into this first temporary role and a role you now embody,” he said. “I am proud to stand with the rest of the committee in supporting your elevation to township administrator and I look forward to what you are going to bring to this township for many years to come.”
