Several scouts were honored for their ongoing community service to Hillsborough during the Township Committee meeting on Aug. 10.
Mayor Shawn Lipani presented Carly Wolf with a proclamation recognizing her for earning her Girl Scout Gold Award.
Carly, a Newmark Education graduate and member of Girl Scout Troop 60304, constructed a dog waste station at the Plainfield Humane Society by converting a mailbox and filling it with recycled bags.
Carly also made over 200 cat toys for the Humane Society and Tabby’s Place Cat Sanctuary. She held two bake sales to raise the necessary funds. The project took over 80 hours to complete.
Lipani also presented Hillsborough High School graduate Kayla Parlato with a proclamation recognizing her for earning her Girl Scout Gold Award.
Kayla’s Gold Award project involved constructing a metal bike repair station at the municipal building. A prototype was built using a 3D printer. The repair station was built using a MIG welding machine, metal grinder, drills and power saws, and required a poured concrete foundation. A QR code was attached and linked to maintenance and repair instructions. The project took 153 hours to complete with the help of 19 people.
In addition, Lipani presented Manasi Chiluka with a proclamation recognizing her for earning her Girl Scout Gold Award.
Manasi’s Gold Award project involved developing a program at Rutgers 4H called DIY Science wherein she educated, inspired, and engaged students virtually utilizing household items to conduct fun science experiments.
The project took 80-plus hours and the aid of three women at Rutgers 4H. The program ran for five months and 20-25 students participated. Manasi is a member of Girl Scout Troop 60643.
