The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners is inviting the families of Monmouth County Sept. 11 victims to participate in a Sept. 11 memorial ceremony, which will be held at Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook at 460 Ocean Boulevard, Atlantic Highlands, on Sept. 11 at 8 a.m.

“As we mark the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, the Board of County Commissioners invites the families of those who lost their lives during this tragedy to not only attend, but to participate in the county’s memorial ceremony,” Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone said.

“The county hosts the memorial ceremony each year to remember those who lost their lives on Sept. 11 and having the families participate would be an honor and a privilege for the county,” Arnone said.

Individuals who are interested in participating are asked to email Lauren Bumbera at Lauren.Bumbera@co.monmouth.nj.us or Danielle Banyacski at Danielle.Banyacski@co.monmouth.nj.us by Sept. 3.

The Monmouth County Park System is hosting its Wind and Sea Festival on Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bayshore Waterfront Park, Port Monmouth section of Middletown. The family friendly event celebrates all things water.

Activities include kayaking, fishing, kite flying, seining, sand casting and more. Most activities are free, but some may have a fee. Admission and parking are free, according to a press release.

Parking is available at the Belford Ferry Terminal, 10 Harbor Way, Belford section of Middletown. A shuttle bus will transport visitors from the ferry terminal to Bayshore Waterfront Park and back to the ferry terminal. A mask is required on the shuttle bus.

The festival offers volunteering opportunities for individuals age 14 and older. Those interested should contact Tracy Shiffman at tracy.shiffman@co.monmouth.nj.us

The League of Women Voters of Monmouth County (LWVMC) is helping voters make informed choices through VOTE411, the league’s national, non-partisan online voters guide.

This is the fourth year LWVMC volunteers will be reaching out to candidates in every competitive local race in Monmouth County to encourage their participation; volunteers will begin their outreach in September, according to a press release.

VOTE411 provides information about voting, including candidate profiles, from the top of the ticket to municipal governing body and Board of Education races. The site won the 2020 Webby Award for Government Innovation and has been seen by more than 35 million voters nationwide, according to the press release.

The online guide will be useful to candidates and voters in the 2021 election, given that early voting options are intensifying the campaign season, while in-person voter contact may still be limited by COVID concerns, according to the press release.

The Monmouth County Park System will present “Peter and the Starcatcher,” produced by Mickey and Judy Productions, at the Thompson Park Theater Barn, Lincroft.

A prequel to “Peter Pan,” this show tells the story of how the boy who wouldn’t grow up came to Neverland with heart, humor and music.

The schedule is as follows: Sept. 16, 7-9:30 p.m.; Sept. 17, 7-9:30 p.m.; and Sept. 18, 2-4:30 p.m. Open to ages 10 and up, under 18 with adult. The cost is $15 per person per show; pre-registration is required. To register, visit www.MonmouthCountyParks.com or call 732-842-4000.
