Plainfield man charged with murder of Edison woman outside of residence

EDISON – Authorities responded to a residence on Wintergreen Avenue West in Edison following the report of a shooting around 7:28 p.m. Sept. 4, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Thomas Bryan of the Edison Police Department.

Upon their arrival, officers located and performed lifesaving measures on Tayeesha Webb, 35, of Edison, who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound, according to the statement.

The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation conducted by Detective Ayaz Mamood of the Edison Police Department and Detective Mark Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined Shakir Tyler, 42, of Plainfield, allegedly shot Webb following an argument outside of the residence, according to reports.

Tyler was charged with first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose upon surrendering to the members of Allentown Police Department in Pennsylvania, according to the statement.

Tyler remained in Pennsylvania pending an extradition hearing, as of press time, according to the statement. Upon his return to New Jersey, he will be lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick pending a pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court.
