MARLBORO – The Township Council has adopted an ordinance that creates a four-way stop at two intersections in the Morganville section of Marlboro.
The ordinance was adopted after a public hearing at the Aug. 19 council meeting.
Council Vice President Scott Metzger, Councilwoman Randi Marder and Councilwoman Carol Mazzola voted “yes” on a motion to adopt the ordinance.
Council President Jeff Cantor abstained from the vote due to a conflict of interest and Councilman Michael Scalea was not present at the meeting.
The ordinance will create four-way stops at the intersection of Texas and Greenwood roads and at the intersection of Texas Road and Falson Lane/Wooleytown Road.
Mayor Jonathan Hornik said the ordinance was required from the Planning Board level. In March, board members approved the construction of 387 residential units near the intersection of Texas Road and Falson Lane/Wolleytown Road.
During the public hearing on the development application, board members and representatives of the applicant discussed the possibility of creating four-way stops. The matter went to the Township Council which followed up with the adoption of the ordinance.
In other business on Aug. 19, the adoption of a bond ordinance that will fund a streambank stabilization project has been tabled to the council’s Sept. 9 meeting.
The ordinance proposes to fund the $955,000 project with the issuance of $907,250 in bonds and a $47,750 down payment from the township.
A bond ordinance requires four “yes” votes (two-thirds of the governing body) to be adopted and Cantor is required to abstain on this item due to a conflict of interest. He abstained on the introduction of the ordinance in July.
Metzger, Marder, Mazzola and Scalea are expected to consider the bond ordinance on Sept. 9.
