Adrah Dent Payne

Adrah Dent Payne, born September 5, 1926, died August 15, 2021 at St Joseph’s Skilled Nursing Facility in Lawrenceville, NJ. Mrs. Payne was a longtime resident of Hopewell Township, NJ. She was a librarian of the Ewing Township and Hopewell Valley schools as well as Princeton University. She was a vital member of the Princeton Friends Meeting and a founding board member of Princeton Friends School. Adrah was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed volunteering, gardening, baking, playing games, knitting, and laughing at jokes. She is survived by four children: Gary, Stephen, Leigh Ann, and Sara (Ottinger); sons and daughters in-law: Jay Ottinger, Stephen Meili, Janet Payne and Mary Lou Morris; 10 grandchildren and one great grandson. Mrs. Payne is predeceased by her husband Donald and son Randy. She will be remembered for her life of service as a missionary to Korea, a mother, an educator and a volunteer in many social outreach organizations.

Special thanks to the caring staff at St Joseph’s and Vitas Hospice Care. These dedicated caregivers were Adrah’s family when family couldn’t be there for her. A celebration of life will be held on September 19 at 2:00 in the afternoon at Stony Brook Meeting House, 470 Quaker Rd. Princeton. Contributions in Adrah’s honor may be directed to Princeton Friends Meeting.
